Speaker A:At the same time you need to know that I carry with me at all times a huge sorrow.
Speaker A:It's an enormous pain deep within me and I'm never free of it.
Speaker A:I'm not exaggerating.
Speaker A:Christ and the Holy Spirit are my witnesses.
Speaker A:It's the Israelites.
Speaker A:If there were any way I could be cursed by the Messiah so they could be blessed by Him, I'd do it in a minute.
Speaker A:They're my family.
Speaker A:I grew up with them.
Speaker A:They had everything going for them.
Speaker A:Family, glory, covenants, revelation, worship, promises.
Speaker A:To say nothing of being the race that produced the Messiah, the Christ who has God over everything always.
Speaker A:Oh yes.
Speaker A:Don't suppose for a moment, though, that God's word has malfunctioned in some way or another.
Speaker A:The problem goes back a long way from the outset.
Speaker A:Not all Israelites of the flesh were Israelites in the Spirit.
Speaker A:It wasn't Abraham's sperm that gave identity here, but God's promise.
Speaker A:Remember how it was put?
Speaker A:Your family will be defined by Isaac.
Speaker A:That means that Israelite identity was never racially determined by sexual transmission, but it was God determined by promise.
Speaker A:Remember that promise When I come back next year at this time, Sarah will have a son.
Speaker A:Well, in today's reflection we're really talking about here about Paul's powerful meditation, all about identity and belonging and just the expansive nature of God's divine love.
