The discourse presented in today's session revolves around the profound themes encapsulated within Revelation 22:6-9, encapsulating an essence of both prophetic urgency and humble servitude. The speaker, Dr. Brad Miller, meticulously dissects the significance of these verses, emphasizing the imperative nature of truth-telling and the collective responsibility that lies within the community of believers. The narrative unfolds with a focus on the angel's admonition regarding the accuracy of prophetic words, thereby underscoring the necessity for immediate action in addressing contemporary societal injustices. Through a lens of progressive Christianity, the discussion highlights critical issues such as climate change, systemic racism, and economic disparity, reinforcing the notion that the time for action is not a distant prospect but a pressing reality that demands our immediate engagement.

Furthermore, the dialogue transitions into a contemplation of spiritual hierarchies, as demonstrated by the angel's refusal to accept worship, positioning itself as a fellow servant among believers. This pivotal moment invites listeners to reflect upon the constructs of authority within religious traditions, challenging them to dismantle barriers that inhibit genuine participation and inclusivity within spiritual communities. Dr. Miller eloquently posits that every individual is called to engage in prophetic work, thereby fostering a collective ethos of justice and transformation, urging us all to embrace our roles as agents of change in our respective contexts.

In conclusion, the speaker presents an actionable step for the audience, encouraging the identification of a pertinent truth within their own communities that necessitates articulation and advocacy. This call to action not only reinforces the theme of collective responsibility but also instills a sense of urgency to engage thoughtfully and courageously in the pursuit of justice. The session culminates in a prayer, beseeching divine guidance as we endeavor to embody the principles of humility and service in our prophetic endeavors, ultimately striving to create communities where every voice resonates in the symphony of truth and justice.

for today from the Revelation:

Speaker A:

The angel said to me, these are dependable and accurate words.

Speaker A:

Everyone, the God and the master of the spirits of the prophets sent his angel to show his servants what must take place and soon and tell them, yes, I'm on my way.

Speaker A:

Blessed be the one who keeps the words and the prophecy of this book.

Speaker A:

John saw all these things.

Speaker A:

I, John, saw all these things with my own eyes, heard them with my ears.

Speaker A:

Immediately when I heard and saw, I fell on my face to worship at the feet of the angel who laid it all out before me.

Speaker A:

He objected, no you don't.

Speaker A:

I'm a servant, just like you and your companions, the prophets and all who keep the words of this book.

Speaker A:

Worship God.

Speaker A:

A great passage here that boils into an opportunity to think deeply about prophecy and action and authentic spiritual practices.

Speaker A:

Prophetic humility, we might call it.

Speaker A:

Let's get into some points to ponder.

Speaker A:

The first one is the urgency of now.

Speaker A:

When the angel says these are dependable and accurate words and I'm on my way, we're reminded that justice just can't wait in our contemporary context.

Speaker A:

Whether we're addressing climate crisis, systematic racism, economic inequality or political problems, the time for action is now.

Speaker A:

Progressive Christianity recognizes that prophecy often means speaking truth to power about present injustices.

Speaker A:

A second point to ponder is about dismantling spiritual hierarchy, the angel's refusal to accept worship and insistence on being seen as his assistance.

Speaker A:

Insistence on being seen as a fellow servant dramatically challenges religious hierarchies this speaks to progressive Christianity's emphasis on the priesthood of all believers and challenges us to question authority structures that separate people into spiritual classes or create barriers to full participation.

Speaker A:

The third thing is about a collective prophetic responsibility.

Speaker A:

The angel identifies as a, quote, a servant, just like you and your companions the prophets.

Speaker A:

This suggests that prophetic work, the work of truth telling and justice seeking, belongs to the entire community.

Speaker A:

We are all called to be prophets in our own context, speaking out against oppression and working for transformation.

Speaker A:

Here's your action step for the day.

Speaker A:

Identify one truth that needs to be spoken in your community.

Speaker A:

Maybe it's about environmental issues or about economic inequality or social injustice.

Speaker A:

There's a myriad of topics, of course.

Speaker A:

Write it down, research it thoroughly and find out a concrete way to share it with others.

Speaker A:

Remember the angels example of humble truth telling speak not from a position of superiority, but as a fellow servant working for change.

Speaker A:

We're going to pray.

Speaker A:
